Looking for an IncrediMail replacement?

IncrediMail was a colorful, playful email app that many people used for years. It was discontinued and no longer gets updates, so it is time to move on. Here is an honest look at what you can keep, what you cannot, and how NotiSpark fits in.

What people miss

Ask former users and the same things come up: the animated notifiers that popped up with a sound when mail arrived, the colorful letters and backgrounds, and the feeling that email was fun rather than a chore.

Modern email apps are faster and safer, but most of them are plain. If the fun was the reason you loved your old app, look for one that brings some of it back.

Before you switch: keep your files

Do this on your old computer first, while everything is still there.

  1. Copy the folder with your notifier animations and their sounds to a USB stick or cloud drive.
  2. Copy any letters, backgrounds and e-cards you made or collected.
  3. Write down your email accounts. Gmail, Outlook.com, Yahoo, iCloud and most providers keep your mail on their servers, so a new app simply downloads it again.
  4. If some old mail only exists on your computer, save it as .eml files with a tool of your choice. NotiSpark can import .eml files.

How NotiSpark covers the notifier part

NotiSpark can play an animation with its sound when new mail arrives, on Windows, Linux and Android. It works with notifier animations made for IncrediMail: import the folder or pack files you already have, and they appear in a gallery with their names and pictures. You can also make your own alert from any GIF and a sound file.

Group animations into profiles, let rules pick one for a sender, folder or subject, or play them at random. Flash (.swf) animations play with a free animation player that the app downloads once you are signed in; GIF animations need nothing extra.

On the free plan, Spark letter (NotiSpark’s own animation, built in) plus one animation of your choice play on new mail: switch your chosen one as often as you like in the first week, then once a month. Pro and Business play all your animations, with random mode and profiles.

What NotiSpark does not do

NotiSpark does not come with IncrediMail animations and does not offer them for download: you use the ones you already have. If you no longer have them, use Spark letter, which comes with NotiSpark, or make alerts from your own GIFs and sounds.

The computer app has a simple stationery library: point it at folders of letters and e-cards you already have and insert one when you write. It is not a full letter designer, and the phone app has no stationery at all.

Bringing over the emails saved in IncrediMail itself is coming in an update to NotiSpark's import assistant. There is no Mac or iPhone version yet.

Set up your animations in NotiSpark

On a computer it takes a few minutes.

  1. Install NotiSpark, add your email accounts and sign in with a free NotiSpark account.
  2. Open Settings, then Notifications, and turn on the animated alert.
  3. On the Import tab, choose the folder (or pack file) with your animations, press Scan Folder, then import.
  4. Preview them in the gallery. On Free, open the one you want and press Use this one; on Pro, build profiles and rules.
  5. Using Flash (.swf) animations? The animation player downloads by itself; you can also start it from the same page.

Questions and answers

Can I still use IncrediMail?

It no longer receives updates or security fixes, so we would not rely on it for your email. Keep your animation and letter files, and move your accounts to a maintained app.

Will my old notifier animations work in NotiSpark?

In most cases, yes: import the folder or pack files. GIF animations play straight away; Flash (.swf) ones play once the free animation player has downloaded, which needs a signed-in NotiSpark app.

Can I download IncrediMail animations from NotiSpark?

No. NotiSpark does not provide them. Use the animations you already have, or make your own from a GIF and a sound.

Is NotiSpark free?

Yes, there is a free plan, and animated alerts are part of it: Spark letter, NotiSpark’s own animation, plus one animation of your choice. Pro and Business play all of your animations.
