Bring your mail from another email app
Changing email apps shouldn't mean leaving years of mail behind. NotiSpark Mail on your computer has an assistant called “Bring my mail from another app”. It finds your old email app, shows you what it found, and brings your emails, contacts, calendar and signatures over. Your old app stays exactly as it was.
Where to find it
The assistant is in NotiSpark Mail on your computer, on Windows and Linux. You can open it from two places.
- Settings › Accounts: the “Bring my mail from another app” card is under your list of accounts.
- Settings › Import & export: the same card is at the top of the page.
- Click “Find my old email apps”. After a few seconds you see what NotiSpark found on this computer.
What it brings over
Choose an app from the list to see what's in it. You decide what comes over: tick the mail folders you want, then add your contacts, calendar and signatures with one click each.
Thunderbird: your emails with their original dates and their read, replied and starred marks, your contacts and your signatures. Every Thunderbird profile is found.
Evolution (Linux): your emails with their dates and marks, your contacts and your calendar.
Windows Live Mail and Windows Mail: your emails with their original dates, and the people saved in Windows Contacts.
The assistant also lists the email accounts you used in your old app, so you can add them to NotiSpark Mail and keep getting new mail. You type each password once: NotiSpark never reads the passwords your old app saved.
Where your old emails go
Your old emails go into one of your email accounts, in a new folder with a name you choose, like “From Thunderbird”. Inside it, your old folders keep their names. Because they are in your account, you see them on your phone too.
For this you need an account that keeps your mail online (IMAP), such as Gmail, Outlook.com or Yahoo. If your account only downloads mail to one computer (POP), add an online account first. The assistant tells you when that's needed.
Contacts: you see the list first. People you already have are not added twice; their missing details are filled in. Signatures are added next to your own, and none is used until you choose it in Settings › Signatures.
It keeps going in the background
A big mailbox can take a while. You can close the assistant: one progress line in Settings shows how far it is, with Pause, Continue and Stop. If you restart your computer, it picks up where it left off. If your email service asks for a break, NotiSpark pauses and carries on by itself about an hour later.
Old mail on another computer or a backup drive
Your old mail doesn't have to be on this computer. Click “Look in another folder…” and pick the place where it is: an old computer's disk connected to this one (choose its Users folder), a backup drive, a copied Thunderbird profile, or a folder of saved emails. NotiSpark looks inside and shows what it found, just like on this computer.
Safe and private
Everything happens on your own computer. Your old mail goes from your old files straight into your own email account: nothing is uploaded to NotiSpark's servers.
Your old app's files are only read, never changed, so your old app keeps working exactly as before.
Run it as often as you like. NotiSpark remembers what it already brought over, so a second run adds nothing twice. If you stopped halfway, starting again brings only the rest.
Coming in an update
IncrediMail and Outlook: the assistant already finds them on your computer. Bringing their emails over is coming in an update; until then your files stay safe exactly where they are. Your Outlook signatures already come over today.
Your IncrediMail ecards, letters and notifier animations can already come over: just double-click the files, as shown on the IncrediMail import page.
Thunderbird calendar: export it from Thunderbird as an .ics file and open that file in NotiSpark Mail.
Questions and answers
Is my old mail uploaded to NotiSpark?
No. Your old emails go only into your own email account. NotiSpark's servers never see them.
Does it change anything in my old app?
No. NotiSpark only reads your old app's files. Your old app keeps working as before, and nothing is deleted from your email account.
What happens if I run it twice?
Nothing is doubled. NotiSpark remembers every email it brought over, so a second run adds only what wasn't there yet.
Can I bring my IncrediMail emails over?
Not yet: that's coming in an update. The assistant already finds IncrediMail on your computer, and your files stay safe as they are. Your IncrediMail ecards, letters and notifier animations can come over today.
Is it free?
Yes. The assistant is part of every plan, including Free.
Is it on the phone app?
No. Old email apps live on computers, so the assistant is in NotiSpark Mail for Windows and Linux. The emails it brings into your account show up on your phone by themselves.
